ACTION ALERTS:

Urge the House of Representatives to take action on Ovarian Cancer
Johanna's Law, Department of Defense and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Dear Supporter,

Members in the House of Representatives are leading the charge to secure increased funding for ovarian cancer programs and they need our help! Currently, there are two “Dear Colleague” letters being circulated in the House of Representatives calling for increased funding for ovarian cancer research and awareness programs and we need to secure as many signatories as possible on these letters by March 16th – the House deadline by which Representatives need to articulate their spending priorities for the coming year!

The more Members signed on to these two letters the better positioned we will be to secure increased fiscal year (FY) 2008 funding for these essential ovarian cancer programs.

Please take a moment to send an e-mail or call your Representative to urge him/her to:

1) Sign the “DeLauro-King” Dear Colleague Letter calling for $20 million for ovarian cancer research under the Congressional Directed Research Programs (the letter also supports $150 million for breast cancer research and $100 for prostate cancer research); and

2) Sign the “Levin-Issa-Burton” Dear Colleague letter calling for $9 million to support the implementation of Johanna’s Law – the Gynecologic Cancer Education and Awareness Act.

3) Request $10 million for the Ovarian Cancer Control Initiative at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Please take action today – your e-mails and phone calls do make a difference!!

UPDATE ON JOHANNA'S LAW:

Johanna's Law, the Gynecologic Cancer Act, HR 1245,
HAS PASSED in the House of Representatives AND in the SENATE!!

About Johanna's Law:
This bill is endorsed by organizations representing over 300,000 physicians, nurses, cancer survivors and women.  Johanna’s Law would create a federal campaign of gynecologic cancer education designed to improve early detection.  Click here to see full text of HR 1245.

How it helps:  By educating America’s women about gynecologic cancer symptoms and risk factors, Johanna’s Law can help women experiencing symptoms seek appropriate medical help quickly, increasing the potential for earlier detection. Women possessing risk factors can take steps to lower their risk. By also devoting resources to educating physicians, Johanna’s Law will enhance the limited exposure to gynecologic cancer patients most physicians receive during their training, making it more likely gynecologic cancers will be considered as possible causes of certain symptoms, along with the less lethal conditions so often assumed to cause them.

Thank you for emailing and calling our legislators to ensure the greatest support for this very important bill.  We made a difference!!!
